My DaughtersStory I want to share a story with you. Its something that happened in my life. I hope it never happens to you or those you love but unfortunately it will in many families. Like many parents I purchased a small life insurance policy for my children from a fraternal agency. Like fewer parents I actually talked with them about the benefits of life insurance. After my daughter Katie graduated from college we talked about how life insurance would never be cheaper for her than at that moment. But she was young and broke and felt she had time to make such decisions later. After she married her husband Stefan we talked about how they could protect each other with life insurance. But young couples dont always think about such things. And then Aiden was born their first child and my first grandson. Now I thought I will finally get her attention about adding to her level of insurance protection. But then it happened numbness in Katies arm and shoulder turned into a diagnosis of multiple sclerosis a disease in which the immune system eats away at the protective covering of nerves in the brain affecting how the brain communicates with the body. There is no cure for it. She will live the rest of her life with this horrible disease. And unless advances in science occur her current ineligibility for life insurance will at best turn into that of a grossly rated candidate. In the meantime if something happens to Katie Stefan wont be able to raise Aiden with the same quality of life. Katie is brave. But bravery doesnt pay the bills. Bravery doesnt keep a roof over her familys head. Why am I telling you this I hear stories every day about people who wait until they can afford insurance. But can you really afford to wait It may seem difficult with the expenses of a family and a mortgage but now is when you need life insurance the most Katies story doesnt have to be yours. Take the time to have the conversation with your children about life insurance. Allan W.
