About Us
Over 140 years ago, the mothers, wives, sisters and daughters of America’s rail workers came together as one to form something greater than themselves: A source of community, support and certainty in fragile and fleeting times.
From those humble origins as a women’s auxiliary of the world’s first fraternal benefit society, Degree of Honor quickly rose to become its own fraternal, protecting the financial futures of our earliest members.
Though our common bond of the railroad has evolved, Degree of Honor’s core belief has remained unchanged: that our members thrive in the confidence of both security and community.
The Degree of Honor Online Museum was created to share our rich history with Degree of Honor members and non-members alike.
We believe that our story belongs as much to our members as it does to all Americans, for Degree of Honor’s story is not just the story of life insurance.
The Degree of Honor story is one of women’s leadership and empowerment across three centuries; it’s of America’s immigrants, ethnic groups, and religious minorities building better lives for themselves and their families; it’s the story of a century-and-a-half of community, of protection, and of togetherness.
It is our privilege to bring Degree of Honor’s precious relics out from our archives and into the open for all to share. We invite you to visit our collections, explore our history, and share your memories here.
